Dr. Andrew Powell

Leveraging global networks to strengthen regional agrifood ecosystems

Dr. Andrew Powell is an agricultural biologist who has worked across all dimensions of Food Security during his 30-year career. He is particularly interested in the use of technology that leads to the democratization of the supply chain, ensuring benefits accrue to farmers, especially the smallholder farmers of Asia. He has been a faculty member on SEARCA (Los BaƱos, The Philippines) programs to train agriculture leaders in ASEAN; a resource person on Food Security and new technology for the Asia Productivity Organization based in Tokyo; and the coordinator of a 4-year project on regulatory policy for agbiotechnology for APEC. Dr. Powell is currently the CEO of Asia BioBusiness Pte. Ltd. Singapore, an SME dedicated to uplifting farming in developing countries with new agtech and biotech. Dr Powell also works on risk communication to address the social dimensions of the change that innovation brings to stakeholders. Dr Powell is also the Senior Regional Advisor to Edinburgh Innovations, the commercialization arm of Edinburgh University.
